What it mostly comes down to is that you don't need to micro most individual units, just the general flow of battle and sniping out their best units. the game can get overwhelming really easily, especially when multiple armies are involved I leaned on that for a while until I felt like I could manage over 20 units. It helps having your entire army with vanguard too. Just jetting around the world clearing out forests and leaving everyone else alone who doesn't gently caress with them. On another note, the Drycha campaign is pretty fun. I do hope they optimise a little with TW3 though. Might bump it up to ultra to see how that plays, framerate doesn't seem to impact a game like this as much as fps/3rd person action games.

It probably has quite an impact on battles though for things like how easy it is for cav to punch through lines, how thin you can spread your frontlines, and how well single enitity units perform.

I play on slow speed quite a lot and don't use hotkeys because I don't use hotkeys in any RTS. They're honestly in the running for least micro intensive faction in the entire game. If you have DLC, sisters of averlorn make it even easier. Hell, if you don't even want to bother with that level of formation, you can literally just spam Lothern Sea Guard and it'll work. You can absolutely win basically every campaign battle as the high elves with nothing but drawing a basic line of spear-related units with archer type units behind them and maybe a single bolt thrower to draw the enemy in. Like, play as Vampires and ignore ranged weapons and artillery entirely - focus on how to flank and charge and all that with just simple garbage infantry like skeletons and zombies.Įlves seem pretty complicated for a first timer despite their power and starting position - they are easy to learn the turn-based map game with, but not really the battles. I feel like the best way for a Total War newbie to learn this game is to pick a faction that has minimal interactable poo poo.
